Diploma of Sports Turf Management
Turf management is the construction, installation, maintenance and renovation of grass species in amenity horticulture using specialist machinery and equipment. Most participants work in green keeping and grounds maintenance of competition or recreation sports clubs. Typically graduates work in golf, cricket, bowls, croquet, foot ball – all codes, softball, tennis, hockey, racing or similar facilities as green keepers or superintendents.
This sector is ideal for participants who enjoy working outdoors with people of a range of ages and backgrounds.
This qualification describes the skills and knowledge for management roles in sports turf. Job roles include senior curators/arena managers, golf course superintendents, sports turf managers, racetrack managers, senior bowling greenkeepers and turf consultants.
It applies to individuals who are responsible for the management of sports turf facilities and who analyse information and exercise judgement to complete a range of advanced skilled activities and demonstrate deep knowledge in specific technical areas.
They have accountability for the work of others and analyse, design and communicate solutions to a range of complex problems.
To commence this qualification an individual must have:
• completed a Certificate III in Sports Turf Management or an equivalent turf management trade level qualification
• a certificate III level qualification in amenity horticulture combined with two years current work experience in a trade level role at a sports turf facility
